their sainthood has come down to us. 11 May the lord help us to be like Jesus, of whom it was said: “in the early morning, while it was still dark, He arose and went out and departed to a lonely place, and was praying there.” 12 The Son of God habitually, regularly, early in the morning, sought the face of God. Jesus refused the chains of self-indulgence, thereby becoming the first of many who claim the promises of the Servant Song. “God Has Opened My Ear” It is one thing to be physically awakened out of sleep, but is is something particularly wonderful to have your inner, spiritual “ear” opened by God to the truths of the Spirit. In Isaiah 50:5, the Servant of the Lord says “ The Lord GOD has opened my ear….” In a similar passage in Psalm 40:6, a text that clearly refers to the Lord Jesus Christ, 13 the Servant says “my ear Thou hast opened.” He did nothing on His own initiative, but rather listened each day for the voice of instruction and/or the impres- sions of the Spirit which enabled Him to do the will of the Father. Consider His words:

Jesus therefore answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these works the Son also does in like manner.
