was no prayer-closet to which He could retire to make easier and habitual His fellowship with God. He loved nature and often His prayer-chambers were the deserts, mountains and solitary places which He sought for their freedom from the discor- dant voices of the earth. 25

Jesus’ way of prayer has had a powerful impact in my life. In my case, I have achieved the habit of prayer, or living in the spirit of prayer by regularly starting the day with prayer. Morning prayer sets my mind and heart toward the Lord. Distractions and intrusions still come, problems still arise, but these things no longer overwhelm and defeat me. Some Christians feel they must choose between the disci- plined form of prayer and the haphazard way. 26 Others wish to develop a prayerful lifestyle. Certainly, prayer is so personal that each of us must find our own character- istic style and approach. Starting the day with at least an hour of prayer admirably fulfills the regiment of disci- pline, effecting a state of mind and spirit that is open and receptive to spontaneous praying throughout the day. A consistent approach to prayer can result in a sensible and inspiring prayerful lifestyle. Only then will we become aware of God’s Spirit pervading our lives. Christ’s Delight The heart’s desire to seek the Lord will find reinforcement through discipline, and from discipline will come delight. This daily regimen of consistently putting God first in the early hours of the day will bring unbelievable satisfac-
