Awaken The Dawn

The Astounding Prayer Life of Jesus as zealously as Jesus, we should at least give special atten- tion to the proper spiritual start of our day. 9 Luke 11 is one of the most enlightening chapters of the Bible on prayer. This remarkable flow of information came about because one of the disciples, obviously impressed by Jesus’ prayer life, asked a simple question:

And it came about that while He was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disci- ples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples.”

The manner in which Jesus prayed must have been imposing. We have enough evidence to know a little of His intensity and fervency, as in the garden of Gethsemane when He fell to the ground on His face and prayed. The Gospel record certainly shows us a Man flu- ent in prayer at any time. He seems to live in a cloud of spiritual incense. In the midst of His last public discourse, for instance, Jesus cries out: “Father, glorify Thy name.” 10 Parents were eager to bring their children so that they might come under the influence of His prayers: Adults should know that children learn about prayer by watching and listening. How else will they learn? There have been times when I have been praying fervently in our pre-service prayer meeting (just before Sunday School) when suddenly I opened my eyes, and behold! A child is staring at me, watching my every move. I have found that if the child learns some basic mechanics, the spiritual power of the prayer developing within the child Then some of the children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray. 11
