AWAKEN THE DAWN!

Keller explains that dew is a clear, clean, pure source of water, and “the silver droplets of the dew hanging heavy on leaves and grass at break of day” is a resplendent pic- ture of the still waters mentioned in Psalm 23. Early morning grazing in dew-drenched grass beautifully illus- trates our early morning times in prayer and the Word. Dew cannot be found at any other time of the day; even so, I maintain, there is a special presence of God experi- enced only by those who awaken the dawn.

In the morning , O LORD, Thou wilt hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to Thee and eagerly watch. 2

I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Thy words. 3

Let me hear Thy lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in Thee; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to Thee I lift up my soul. 4

It seems most significant that God supplied Israel with His miracle bread early each morning (except the Sabbath), much the same way as a shepherd puts his sheep early to pasture. Exodus 6:14 says: “When the layer of dew evaporated, behold, on the surface of the wilder- ness there was a fine flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground.” This manna not only appeared with the dew, but it evaporated with the sun. The Israelites had to gather the manna early each morning (except the Sabbath), or they
