discovered this, I was really startled! Go through the entire book of Psalms and note every mention of prayer. You win find dozens of references that connect prayer with verbal expression. For instance: Lord, hear my voice! Let Thine ears be attentive To the voice of my supplication. 8 Quiet reflection is certainly beneficial, but is it not a mis- take to ignore all the Scriptural leads to pray aloud? Private, uninterrupted prayer lends itself to verbal expression. Do not be afraid to use your voice. Jesus Himself learned this secret and practiced it often. How else would we know the words He used in Gethsemane in John 17? The disciples heard the Master use His voice in prayer. Jesus told His disciples to pray, “saying.” 9 We are aware that He taught that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. This principle involves not only the bad, but also the good, and it also applies to prayer. Contrition comes from the heart, but confession comes out through the mouth. 10 I have been pleasantly surprised to discover that we are actually directed to say aloud some passages in Psalms. Expressing prayers aloud makes them dynamic! Say these prayers out loud, repeat them aloud, declare them loud and clear:

Let all who seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee; Let those who love Thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified. 11
