Parks & Rec Fall 2018

To the Residents of Christiansburg

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

It's that magical time of year again - when the children have returned to school and the cool morning breezes approach. As the leaves begin to change across the mountain range, the excitement of fall in the New River Valley returns. This is the perfect time to enjoy the recreational opportunities the Town of Christiansburg has to offer! The Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department exists to promote and implement leisure programs and services that enhance the quality of life for all ages. In partnership with the community, we strive to deliver programming in a personal, effective and successful manner. We serve you, the residents of Christiansburg and our visiting neighbors, and look forward to continuing to grow and build our special community. As you read through the brochure, you will find many recreational opportunities available for your entire family. There are plenty of ways to enjoy each other's company outside—whether that is by partaking in our youth football leagues, playing at one of our nine Town parks or witnessing the sights and sounds of nature's beauty while walking along the Huckleberry Trail. We now provide a great source of alternative non-motorized transportation with our new bike share named "Roam New River Valley". You are sure to see the orange bikes as they are stationed at the Christiansburg Recreation Center and the New River Valley Mall at the NRCC entrance along with other stations in Blacksburg and Virginia Tech. As the weather turns cooler, you may prefer to meet your recreational needs in an indoor setting. Look no further than the Christiansburg Recreation Center. Is developing a healthy lifestyle on your agenda? If so, please take advantage of our various educational classes and health screenings. Exercise is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle so be sure to check out our cardiovascular and weight rooms, or simply take a nice stroll on the 1/8-mile indoor track. Are you over the age of 50? There are many Senior Center activities and events year-round. Please see our Senior Center Calendar and Parks and Recreation Department brochure for a complete listing of all of our programming and activities. Looking for some exciting fall events? Please join us for the Huckleberry Hustle 5K Race on October 27. Make sure to stick around for the Truck or Treat to explore fire trucks, dump trucks and other large equipment - while gathering treats! Don't forget to wear your most creative costume. Come be a part of our Annual Christmas Parade and get an early sighting of Santa as he takes a break from his workshop to ride a fire engine in downtown Christiansburg. I am excited to be spending this fall session here with you, in the Town of Christiansburg. I look forward to maintaining the recreational opportunities currently in place, while also looking at how we can better serve you and enhance your experiences in the future. Our recreational community is quickly becoming known as "The ONLY Place to Play." Best wishes to each of you for a cool and colorful fall season.

Sincerely yours, B. T. Epperley Brad Epperley Director of Parks and Recreation
