The Record 2014 - 2015

SPORT Cricket Simon Roche, Master i/c Cricket

2015 was another hugely successful cricket season. The 1st XI won 16 matches in total and retained the John Harvey Cup, making them one of the most successful teams in the School’s history. They did so by beating Marlborough, Winchester, Bradfield, Cheltenham and, of course, Radley. Other headlines include beating Oxford University by eight wickets and distinguished contributions from individual players. Playing against The Oratory, Calvin Dickinson broke the 30-year-old record for the highest individual innings with 181 and his 276 in partnership with AJ Woodland was the highest in the School’s history. With joint 1st X1 captain Will Bull, Dickinson put on the School’s highest ever opening stand of 239 against the Free Foresters. He finished the season with 1043 runs, becoming only the fifth Teddies batsman ever to achieve over 1000 runs in a season. The bowling attack was led by AJ Woodland, Andy Wyles and Sam Kennedy but it was Rory Hipwell, a Fourth Former, who had stand out performances of 5 for 44 against Saint Kentigern and 5 for 28 against Cheltenham. At the end of a hard-fought summer, the following boys received their colours: Sam Kennedy, Will Bull, Calvin Dickinson, Andrew Wyles, Aditya Edekar, and AJ Woodland. Elsewhere in the club there were other fine performances and 10 centuries were recorded in total. Ben Charlesworth scored two of these for the Yearlings and he finished the season with a total of 587 runs. The Yearlings A’s won eight games, including victories over Radley (away), Rugby, Winchester, Clifton and, rather impressively, Harrow. James Curtis helped the Junior Colts A’s with 117 versus The Oratory and Tom Powell scored 106 versus Marlborough. The first-ever St Edward’s girls’ cricket team played well and had a close game with Bloxham. 1st X1 Coach: Richard Howitt/Rex Hooton
