SPORT Boys’ Hockey Zak Jones, Head of Hockey

The 1st XI produced some fine performances beating Eton and Cheltenham away and defeating Marlborough, Stowe and Wellington at home. In their final game they beat a strong Dean Close side 5-0. In the St George’s Sixes, they narrowly missed out on a quarter final place with wins over Desborough, Ardingly and Cranleigh. Charlie Shipperley led the side fantastically well and was ably supported by vice-captains Maxim Adcock and Tom Lotter. The 2nd XI enjoyed some positive results including wins against Cheltenham College, Wellington and Winchester, and hard-fought draws against Marlborough and Stowe. Strong play from the 3rd X1 resulted in a fine 2-2 draw against Marlborough and there were also agonisingly close defeats against Radley and Cheltenham. The U16A’s had a mixed season with some good wins, creditable draws and frustrating losses. The U16B’s were hampered by injuries but nevertheless enjoyed some impressive wins. The U15A’s achieved some hard-fought draws and strong wins against Bradfield and Wellington. The hard work all season finally paid off in the last two games for the U15B team as they won 6-0 against Wellington and 4-2 against Dean Close. The U15C’s had a very successful season beating Abingdon, Marlborough, Stowe and Wellington with a forward line that demonstrated great agility and speed and never seemed to tire. Highlights of the U14A’s season included early wins against Bradfield and Abingdon, a 4-3 victory over MCS with three goals in the final eight minutes, a fantastic team performance to beat Cheltenham 3-0 and a good showing against league winners Marlborough. The side also reached the semi-finals of the inaugural National Sixes tournament at Rugby where they lost to champions Repton.
