Adorn your Entrance with Flowers S et the mood with bright coloured flowers this winter season to greet you when you get home. Make a good first impression, head to your local garden centre for some cheerful seasonal colour. Why not pop a big, bright pot of them by your front door for an instant welcome? Enhance the beauty of your front entrance, be unique and be creative – Plants are the perfect way to boost curb appeal. Whether you choose annuals, perennials or shrubs, they smarten up any entryway and make it feel like there's no place like home! To get started, choose a planter. Look for one that complements your home’s style and colour, and make sure it’s large enough to make a statement and be seen from the street. Then, pay attention to how much light your entryway receives and choose plants that can handle your specific sun/ shade conditions. Opt for flowers of a single colour for maximum impact. Or mix and match types of plants, combining upright forms with those that spill over the edges. Shrubs also work well in containers for a more formal appearance. Start with the right size pot. Plant size should determine pot size, choose the right plants, use a quality growing mix, water diligently, fertilize regularly, primp, prune and replace.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife recommends these top whale watching spots:
Bouddi Coastal Walk, Bouddi National Park – This 8.5km Bouddi coastal walk runs from Putty Beach to Macmasters Beach and is known for its excellent boardwalk offering sublime ocean views. The track hugs the rugged coastline providing ample opportunities to spot whales and dolphins and enjoy the beautiful beaches and picnic spots. Gerrin Point lookout, Bouddi National Park – For a fantastic vantage point without a long hike, head to Gerrin Point lookout. This spot is located along the Bouddi coastal walk and is reached via a short walk from the eastern end of Putty Beach. Relax on the bench and soak up the panoramic views of Maitland Bay and the Bouddi National Park Marine Extension. Wyrrabalong National Park – Make a day out of whale watching and head to Crackneck lookout. Spot whales with expansive views over Shelley Beach and The Entrance and enjoy a picnic on the grassy area or at one of the picnic tables. After lunch, stroll along The Coast walking track that stretches north to Bateau Bay or south to Forresters Beach. Pelican Beach Road Lookout – For a tranquil whale watching experience, located at the northern end of Wyrrabalong National Park. Enjoy spotting whales from the great lookout platform or go for a relaxing walk along the beach's long stretch of golden sand. The Skillion, Terriga l - You can drive and park easily at the base of the Skillion, however, it is a steep walk to the top. This has been made easier in recent years with the concrete stairway and path added. Your effort will be rewarded with your uninterrupted ocean view from the top. Norah Head Lighthouse - There is designated parking with a pathway to the Lighthouse. There are ample spots to sit and scan for the passing whales. Why not get the best view of the whales right from the top and book a lighthouse tour to walk the 96 stairs to the top! Bateau Bay Beach Viewing Area - Perfect for taking in the sights. While it is not the highest vantage point, the landscaped sandstone platform provides a clear viewing point out over Bateau Bay. Plenty of parking is available, and picnic tables and amenities are close by. Copacabana Beach – Whale Watching Platform – Captain Cook Lookout. At the Southern end of the coast this purpose-built platform has views all the way south to Palm Beach; perfect for watching the annual whale migration. To remain safe when whale watching, keep at least five metres from cliff edges and rock platforms and pay close attention to signage.

Redecorate your bathroom on a budget Change the colour as with any room, changing the colour of your bathroom can have a dramatic effect. Selecting the new colour for your bathroom should be the first step in redecorating, as the other steps will be based around the new colour. Painting a bathroom is a quick job as it is small and can be finished in one or two days. Accessorise Adding accessories can really improve and highlight the overall effect. Adding accessories in a similar or contrasting colour to your walls will really stand out. Some items to consider towels, candles, soap holder or dispenser, mats, toothbrush holder, Plants, Ornaments that go with the theme, Incense or potpourri, Unique collections such as different shaped bottles or soaps. Add a Picture In most bathrooms, there is usually a place where you can add pictures - even the smallest wall space can draw the eye with the addition of a contrasting piece of art. Shower Curtain Replacing your existing curtain with a bright and vibrant curtain can really give your bathroom a lift. Consider looking for a Tie-Back that will go with the theme of the bathroom eg shell-rope in a beach-themed bathroom. Fixtures Replacing the fixtures in a bathroom can be very effective. Shiny new taps, changing the handles or knobs on your cabinets to match your theme can give that finished touch. Tiles If the tiles in your bathroom are dated, consider changing their colour instead of retiling. Removing existing tiles can be a challenging job, one that can require a lot of extra work as the walls may need replastering afterwards. Paint suppliers now produce tile paints that can transform old and dated tiles into new and exciting colours. Or consider removing and changing the odd tile with a themed tile here and there. Another option: regrouting or use a grout pen to whiten and freshen up the existing grout. Edging Tiles Changing or adding new edging tile can give a great effect. Try to add tiles in a colour that contrasts with the walls and exiting tiles. Mirrors in decorative frames can add glamour and warmth to a bathroom. They also reflect light making the space appear larger and brighter. Towel Holders Screw a few decorative towel holders into the wall, and you'll be amazed at how it looks.

Extremely functional & Stunning showpieces A lthough largely overlooked, a range hood is actually one of the most important appliances in the kitchen. They are designed to remove odours, grease, heat and smoke and other pollutants that are released into the air while cooking. The most important job of the range hood is to improve the air quality of your kitchen. The polluted air is sucked through a motorized fan and is either carried outside or filtered and re circulated. Without a range hood, you and your family will find yourselves breathing in the aftermath of dinner, causing possible eye, nose, and throat irritation. In addition, vent hoods help prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Studies show elevated levels of carbon monoxide in kitchens caused by using the stove without turning on the range hood. An overhead range hood offers additional lighting for food preparation and cooking. The proper lighting also makes clean-up easier and ensures removal of all that hard to see grease and grime. Lighting features can range from basic to state-of-the-art, depending on which model you choose. Stylish Upgrade - Range hoods are not only practical, but can also be a stylish addition to your kitchen. These days range hoods come in a wide variety of designs. Shop around to find the perfect fit for your budget, kitchen space, and personal style. A Good Investment - Real estate experts agree—if you are trying to sell your home make sure your kitchen is up to date. An attractive kitchen with modern appliances adds major resale value to your home. Choosing the right range hood can make a big difference in the look and feel of your kitchen. You will more than likely see a good return on this investment. Stay Comfortable - Cooking produces a lot of heat which can make a kitchen quite uncomfortable. Another great benefit of range hoods is the removal of excess heat and steam, providing a more pleasant cooking environment for the chef and the rest of the family. L ess Kitchen Odour - Cooking smells can linger long after dinner is over. Turning on your range hood helps to keep your home smelling fresh. Proper ventilation also helps to prevent the growth of bacteria and mould, a definite plus for anyone with allergies or asthma.

Organise your Laundry Room
W ith careful planning and special and fold clothes, store detergents, linen, and towels. A laundry room might be one of the most hardworking areas of your home but that shouldn’t mean it can’t be beautiful. If you have the room and the budget, investing in built in laundry storage that would work perfectly in your space will allow you to use every inch efficiently. Make your small laundry room the most serene and organized space in your home. A laundry room has a way of collecting clutter— piles of dirty clothes, random coats. Could you switch it up to make more space? A good start is to look at where your washing machine and laundry storage products you can create all the space you need to sort
and iron, Steamer, Bins to sort laundry into darks, lights, towels, and so on. You can also set up an area of the room with a clothing rack or rod to hang pieces you’ve ironed. Other ideas include The perfect laundry basket, Holders and hooks keep things in their place, Laundry accessories in place with a board, A storing board with boxes and trays keep the small items in your laundry room sorted. Put your washing on wheels - A drawer system filled with smart drawers is great for laundry rooms. If you put wheels on it your clean washing then simply can be rolled from washing machine to tumble dryer to line to space where you can fold your clothes.
tumble dryer are positioned. Look for functional laundry room storage ideas – open shelving is a great option because you can keep everything in sight and easily accessible. Deep shelves lower down will be handy for heavier items, with shelves above head height designed to stash items you don't use often and it is a good way to keep them organised and out of view. Even better, opt for a modular storage system like Ikea’s Algot system or Jonaxel Shelving unit with clothes rail, that can be customised and quickly adapted to different needs and spaces. Some additional laundry room options include: Folding area, like a table or shelf, Drying rack or indoor clothesline, Set of mesh bags for washing delicate items, Ironing board

Tackling crime in the community
T he recent increase in crime continues to be a significant concern for our community. Adam Crouch MP wants to reassure the community that your concerns have been heard. “I’ve met with victims of crime and heard from hundreds more who are concerned about their safety.” Adam said. “Both of our region’s local police commands are doing everything in their power to apprehend and charge criminals. Additionally, the Brisbane Water Police District has announced the formation of Strike Force Connect, which will work to target criminal activity across the Central Coast and is already making a difference.” A key concern raised by the public has been confusion about who to call when reporting a crime—luckily, the answers are right here!

Flooring – on the level A nyone can click floorboards together, but there are several critical factors missed by would-be DIY’s and those that do not specialise in laying floors. These make the difference between a new floor to cherish and one to put up with. 3 critical points to get right: 1. Subfloors need to be levelled to less than a 3mm dip over a 3m span. Cracks or old grout are not important, but ‘valleys’ and ‘puddles’ will ruin your enjoyment like a roof leak. Finding the dips is easier than fixing them as levelling is a skilled job where ‘close’ is not enough. 2. Leave a suitable expansion gap around EVERY bit of the new floor edge. We suggest removal and refitting or replacing of skirting so that this gap is neatly hidden. Some areas may need scotia or quad where there is no skirting or kick boards. A gap ‘most of the way’ around the new floor is not adequate and will create problems. 3. Architraves, doors and fiddly bits like stairs require practice and the right tools. Nothing stands out more than botched and patched cuts and gaps. Most people can cut a 90⁰ angle, but very few houses are built with exact angles meaning that extra care and measuring is required to make trims and fittings ‘look’ right. Our professional installers know this and are looking to make the finished job a pleasure to live with. The cost of getting it right is small, compared to the frustration and

disappointment of living with faults. The type of new flooring is also an important factor. A quality laminate is the most scratch resistant and low maintenance solution and with extremely authentic decors. Hybrid floors are essentially a vinyl plank floor that can be laid as a floating floor. Engineered timber will give you a timber floor you can sand back in later years without expensive laying costs. THE EXPERT ask all ages. Lactoferrin possesses the unique ability to regulate iron in the body. So too with Cytokines, hence international COVID-19 clinical trials now springing up. Lactoferrin is antibiotic, anti-microbial, antiviral, antifungal, uniquely Probiotic, anti-inflammatory & more. As an iron-binding glycoprotein, High grade Lactoferrin can certainly help defend against viruses, infections and bacteria, inhibiting growth via starving them of nutrients & destroying surrounding bacterial walls . Majorly beneficial for crucial gut Health, Lactoferrin is an extremely well tolerated immunomodulatory suitable for all ages and so is ideal in both auto-immune as well as immune compromised situations . IMMUVIVER Immune Reviver is indisputably the ultimate Herbal immune support formula. The formula is backed by scientific evidence with verified the synergistic components’ able to specifically support the immune system. Developed by G&W AUST P/L, an Australian research-based company Est. 1996 that focuses on integrative research spearheaded by Dr G Hu, PhD in Medicine of Sydney University, ImmuViver acts like no other for its purpose. • The herbs in this formula have traditionally been employed therapeutically for their tonic effects. Extensive research has demonstrated the main active components of these herbs help maintain normal healthy immune and digestive function, nourish the liver, reinforce vital energy, improve general weakness and assist recovery after illness. • "Medicinal" Mushrooms are well known to be some of the most potent immune boosters, liver tonics and enhancers of general health. The most famous is Cordyceps, technically a Himalayan caterpillar fungus. Nevertheless, it is indeed rare to ever see the genuine article. Monash University Professor Traude Beilharz heading up recent research into Cordyceps in Australia, has described the amazing fungus as a “bioactive treasure trove” that could help scientists consider different ways of developing future vaccines. Professor Beilharz further states “This discovery could be crucial in stimulating immunity and reducing the need for booster shots to maintain immunity“. BY GEOFF GARLINGE
FLU SEASON STRIKES EARLY In the 1 st quarter of 2025, 48,000+ cases of influenza were already reported in Australia compared to 30,000 in the same period last year. This ominous huge increase justifiably strikes fear into many hearts, as does RSV which is also on the rise & though peaking mid-winter is indeed prevalent all year round causing much hospitalisation. COVID has of course certainly still not been eradicated either. Hence as always & even more so in the present “virus soaked” world it is wise & indeed imperative to strengthen our immune systems. “Building the bomb shelter before the bomb drops” wherever possible can in reality guard against contracting common viral infections, as well as majorly reduce the risk of developing degenerative diseases – all the way to Cancer. Each of the mentioned conditions can actually be life-threatening for certain individuals, so should be never taken lightly. From the natural perspective, there is a vast array of touted pseudo immune bolstering tools, yet few really facilitate functional & sustainable vibrant health free of typical illness. While no “magic silver bullet” exists, following is a synopsis of what I refer to as the generally consumer- friendly must haves in order to be able to say like myself…thank God I honestly can’t recall the last time I was sick. • Vitamin C well tolerated gentle buffered Ascorbate or Interclinical Professional C Plus caps together with Propolis (NOT propylene glycol-based) synergistically delivers enhanced bioavailability, substantial Quercetin & much more. Along with plenty of clean fruit & veg incl. raw onions, Organic 100% Georgian Cherry Juice + Maqui Berry Activate , there’s definitely no reason to take Quercetin as many advocate. Bee Pollen is rich in Zinc as well as being a Natural storehouse, boasting a potent array of additional nutrients and elements to energise, balance & strengthen the body. Enjoy a handful of Org Pepita Kernels (raw or popped in Coconut/Olive Oil )& again in the overall lifestyle context no need to take Zinc. Build up slowly to 2x1 tbsp. • ImmuViver contains 5 of the most valuable and potent genuine Medicinal mushrooms - Cordyceps sinensis, Ganoderma lucidum, Trametes versicolor, Lentinula edodes and Wolfiporia cocos. The combination of these five mushrooms with their highly refined and concentrated polysaccharides maximises the potency to provide benefits to powerfully enhance immunity. As there is a clear correlation between the dose and clinical effect of "Medicinal" mushroom products, highly refined extracts are used to achieve a significantly higher dose in each capsule equivalent to 10 times the potency of typically available formulas. • Ganoderma lucidum is a highly reputable herb to regulate and strengthen immune function. Due to differences of the active components and ratio between Ganoderma fruiting body and spore, combining the highly refined extracts from both parts deliver a full range of health benefits. The latest 3rd generation Medicinal grade Ganoderma spore extract in ImmuViver retains all actives unlike the former 2 nd generation. Latest technologies enable removal of all inactive components, such as shells and oils, which occupy 90+% of total weight. This results in a 10-fold increase in the active content. Quality and stability of shelf life are also significantly enhanced. • ImmuViver’s 19 potent and genuine therapeutic Herbs including 5 medically reputable mushrooms plus both Panax and American ginseng, all act on a synergetic and holistic (whole-body) level to address a range of Health and immune deficiencies while easing the mind, relieving tension and crucially helping to maintain optimal healthy digestion. Look Good & Feel Good Digestive health A healthy digestive system can boost overall health and wellbeing. Experts recommend consuming 30g dietary fibre each day to stay healthy. There are three different types of fibre, each with its own important role in maintaining a healthy digestive system. Insoluble fibre is found in wholegrain and wholemeal breads, crispbreads, bran cereals and vegetables. It helps prevent constipation. Soluble fibre is found in fruit, oats, psyllium and legumes such as baked beans and lentils. It helps to reduce blood cholesterol, regulate blood sugars, and maintain fluid in the faeces. Resistant starch is found in barley, oats, black rye bread, muesli, sweet corn, cooled cooked potatoes, rice and bananas. It is often added to bread and breakfast cereals. It provides nourishment to 'friendly' bacteria in the bowel. It's best to get your fibre from whole foods such as grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits. However, if you struggle with this, a fibre supplement can help. Soluble fibre supplements based on guar gum and psyllium can help lower cholesterol and aid digestion. Too much unprocessed bran can interfere with absorption of minerals such as iron, but 1 or 2 tablespoons a day is ok. Make sure you drink enough water as well. What is regular? Although most people have one bowel movement a day, others go several times a day, while some people can go without for days or more, without harm. Going to the toilet as soon as you feel the urge helps keep the body's signals working well. Blood in the stool, or pain, is not normal. A significant, ongoing change in your usual habits also needs investigation. In either case, see your doctor. What about wind? Intestinal gas is a normal part of our digestive process and is created by beneficial 'friendly’ bacteria that live in the bowel. Increasing fibre in your diet generally leads to an increase in gas. How smelly the gas is depending on the food eaten, and smelly gas is not a sign of ill health. In general, wind is a social issue, not a sign of a health problem. It might not seem obvious, but getting regular exercise is very good for those who suffer from bloating and constipation. Faeces are mainly water, so not drinking enough fluids can make constipation worse.

FRIDAY 13TH JUNE – 8PM Cancer Council NSW Fundraiser at Laycock Theatre
Combined Demolition Services Terrigal – Leading Asbestos Removal and Demolition Company A t Combined Demolition Services, we are more than just a demolition company, we are a dedicated team of professionals with a shared goal. That is to redefine the industry standards of safety, expertise, and environmental responsibility. We can assist with bathroom/kitchen removals, partial or full house demolition excavation and site services. On 21st March at Terrigal Surf Club, CDS launched its new office, partnership with Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia (ADFA) and offered the community a place to get help, information and drop samples for testing. Barry Robson, Maree Stokes and the entire ADFA committee have been highlighting the need for further awareness, improvements and positive change. The partnership intends to help the community and educate renovators on the dangers of asbestos removal and ultimately save lives. Minister Sophie Cotsis was in attendance and very supportive of CDS, ATH, and ADFA’s desire to create positive change. Two major changes needed relate to the 10m2 rule (license or approval not currently required under this threshold) and 5-day notice period for notification of removing asbestos. Ex NRL Superstar James Maloney, whose father died of asbestos related disease, shared his touching personal story and experience with his family. James is leading the charge to help prevent lives and further educate the community through his profile. Our journey started 25 years ago with John Limpus’ company, About the House. John has been a leader in safety, asbestos and amplifying the voice for positive change in the industry. John has been a member of ADFA for the past 10 years and he continues to push for reform and to remove the companies not complying with current laws. Michael Limpus along with wife Shannon, launched the demolition company Combined Demolition approx 9 years ago - now operating across Sydney, Central Coast and Newcastle with a team of 30 staff. CDS has also helped re- establish communities during national disasters like the Lismore incident in recent years, sending up to 50 people there to help. Ben Bailey joined Combined demolition as their CEO in 2024 after meeting Michael and being inspired by Michael’s vision. Ben has spent much of his career in medium to large businesses focusing on building teams, growth and has a unique skillset for refining operations and chasing efficiency. Ben completed his MBA in 2022 to build on his impressive resume and has been involved in developing young talent through mentorship programs. Ben plans to lead the Group into the next exciting phase. CDS aims to divert landfill, recycle goods and re-use timber through our sister company Coastal Recycling. Coastal has a yard at Gosford where Shaun and the team provide a valuable service for our community including reusing timber, selling second hand goods like railway sleepers and bags of firewood. As we approach winter the company sells bags of premium firewood for $200 per bag from the site at Gosford rather than place these offcuts into landfill. Reach out to Shaun if you need warming up on 0472 648 976. It’s important to choose a reputable demolition and asbestos removal company that are licensed, insured, and experienced in handling these tasks safely and responsibly. Always verify credentials and ask for references before hiring such services to ensure the safety of both the workers and the community.
