administrative leave, floating holiday or other similar leave will still be considered to be vacation that may not be lost once it is accrued. Under very limited circumstances sabbatical leave programs will not be considered vacation subject to Labor Code section 227.3. 754 However, the plan must meet the following criteria:  The sabbatical must be for an extended period that is longer than a normal vacation;  The sabbatical may be in addition to vacation and not a replacement for vacation;  Sabbatical leave may only be provided to high level managers and professionals in advanced fields; and  It may not be granted too frequently. 755

 The DLSE will allow sabbaticals for other than professional employees where such plans are in addition to an established vacation policy only if the sabbatical leave program predates July 1, 1982. 756

A. S CHOOL A TTENDANCE R EQUIREMENTS Minors aged six through 15 years must attend school full-time unless the minor has graduated high school, attends an approved private school, has a tutor, is on an approved leave of absence, has transferred from another state with less than 10 days left in the school year, or has justifiable personal reasons requested by the parent and approved by the principal. 757 In rare circumstances, minors aged 14 and 15 enrolled in Work Experience Education may be granted a permit to work full-time during school hours. 758 Sixteen and 17 year-olds who have not graduated from high school or who have not received a certificate of proficiency must attend continuation classes for at least four hours per week if they are regularly employed. 759 No minor may legally drop out of school entirely. B. W ORK P ERMITS Except in limited circumstances, all minors under 18 years of age who are employed must have a permit to work. 760 The permit is called a Permit to Employ and Work and is usually issued by the minor’s school. 761 However, if the private school chooses not to issue work permits, the permits may be issued to pupils by the public school district in which the private school is located. 762 In typical circumstances, after a prospective employer agrees to hire a minor, the minor then obtains from his or her school a "Statement of Intent to Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit" form. 763 The minor’s parent or guardian and prospective employer complete the form and return it to the school. 764 If all of the requirements for the permit are satisfied, the school may issue the permit.
