Chapter 6 – Wage And Hour Laws

 The telephone number of the school.  The name, address, and telephone number of the school’s workers’ compensation insurance carrier. 773 The notice must be printed in the language the school normally uses to communicate employment-related information to employees. 774 In addition, schools must notify employees in writing of any changes to the above information within seven calendar days of the time the changes are made unless the changes are reflected on a timely wage statement in accordance with Labor Code section 226. Also, if the employee is notified of the changes in a separate writing within seven days of the changes, then the school is not required to provide a separate notification of the changes in order to satisfy the requirements of Labor Code section 2810.5. 775 B. P AY S TUB R EQUIREMENTS Labor Code section 226, subdivision (a) requires that certain information be given to an employee with the paycheck. The following information is required:  The name and address of the legal entity that is the school;  Employee's name and social security number (last four digits only);  Inclusive dates for which the employee is being paid;  Gross wages earned;  The applicable hourly rate and total hours worked for hourly employees (for

employees paid on a piece rate basis, the applicable piece rate and units earned);The amount of paid sick leave available, or paid time off available if the school provides paid time off in lieu of sick leave; 776

 All deductions; and  Net wages earned. 777

The deductions made from payments of wages shall be recorded in ink or other indelible form, properly dated, showing the month, day, and year, and a copy of the statement or a record of the deductions shall be kept on file by the school for at least three years at the place of employment or at a central location within the State of California. 778 1. R IGHT T O I NSPECT The school must provide an employee or former employee copies of his or her payroll records within 21 days after a request, or permit the employee to inspect those records. 779
