creativity, plus games and books. Featured brands include crafts from Klutz, adorable plush from JellyCat, Melissa & Doug, Lego and Playmobile. And they gift-wrap! Luecke’s Diamond Center – classic looks for the discerning shopper, and an ever-changing selection of antique and estate jewelry, plus one- of-a-kind retro pieces. There’s more: apparel for men and women, shoes, books, antiques, recycled and repurposed, bridal and special occasion, formalwear, fashion accessories, sporting goods, bicycles, pharmacy, novelties, yarn, framing, hand-crafted artisan creations, home furnishings, and salon products. Pair downtown shopping with downtown events. Here are three favorites presented this year by Main Street Monroe: Concerts on the Square – A family- friendly evening with live music. Expect to hear a variety of musical

genres – in the past including Country, R&B, Big Band, Ska and more. You’ll also enjoy theme nights and special intermission entertainment. Food vendors are available, or bring your own box lunch. Proceeds from the Main Street Beer Garden are shared with several nonprofit groups that have a focus on supporting children and families. Cars on the Square – Roadsters with rumble seats. Fins and chrome. Muscle cars and hot rods. And vintage vehicles from every decade in between. Cruise on in to downtown Monroe on June 7 and August 23. Follow the Cars on the Square Facebook page for updates and registration information. Farmers Markets – the best of the season with locally grown produce and specialty items. Follow the market on Facebook for details on what’s ripe, entertainers and demonstrations. A monthly winter market – featuring the famous “farmer’s market breakfast” – takes place indoors at the Masonic Temple Building in November through April. Foodies take note – there are some seriously satisfying options in downtown Monroe. Suisse Haus (sandwiches, pizza, deep fried cheese curds); Turner Hall (Swiss and American cuisine, lunch buffet, friday fish fry); Baumgartner’s Cheese Store and Tavern (home of the famous Limburger cheese sandwich, chili, soup, and an impressive assortment of beers on tap); Buggy Works (best mac-n-cheese, burgers, salads, fried curds, pasta); and Rainbow Confections for that sweet finish (ice cream, candy, gourmet fudge and caramel corn).

Here are a few to check out: Heartland Graphics – get your “cheesemaker gear” here – the perfect stop for a souvenir t-shirt to commemorate your visit, as well as custom embroidery and screen printing (one block southeast of the Square – look for the red awning). JoAnne’s Dress Shop – for the latest fashions and accessories. Brands you will enjoy include NYDJ, Slim-sations and French Dressing. Check out boots by Madeline

with eclectic shopping options, engaging attractions, and fun stops to refuel – all packaged into a historic, vibrant, and walkable downtown district. More than thirty shops are located within a several-block vicinity around the Courthouse Square. Businesses are locally owned by entrepreneurs who bring their own style to life with unique lines of merchandise and personalized customer service.
