Sick leave and Holiday pay will be considered work time in computing overtime. All overtime work shall be held to a minimum for the efficient operation of the department. When overtime is required, each employee is expected to be available for such assignment. The City will reschedule employees to avoid overtime. There will be no pyramiding of overtime.

Compensatory Time Compensatory time may be accumulated to a maximum of two hundred forty (240) hours in a fiscal year for non-public safety employees. If compensation is paid to an employee for accrued compensatory time off, such compensation shall be paid at the regular rate earned by the employee at the time the employee receives the compensation. Accrued compensatory time not used by June 1 may be paid for in cash prior to the end of the fiscal year at the discretion of the City. Non-exempt Police officers, Dispatchers and Firefighters No more than 96 hours of compensatory time may be carried over beyond June 1 each year for Police & Dispatchers. Any hours over 96 will be compensated in cash prior to the end of the fiscal year. No more 105 hours of compensatory time may be carried over beyond June 1 each year for Fire Department Employees. Any time over 105 hours will be compensated in cash prior to the end of the fiscal year. Employees who have accrued compensatory time may request the use of compensatory time and shall be permitted to use such time within a reasonable period after making the request if the use of compensatory time does not unduly disrupt operations. Normally a notice of three days will be required for the use of compensatory time. An employee's supervisor or the City Manager may direct the employee to use their compensatory time at the City's discretion. Compensatory Time for Training Supervisors (Police and Dispatchers) Dispatchers who are qualified and do train new employees shall be credited with One (1) hour of comp time for each eight (8) hours of training accomplished, subject to the approval and monitoring of the Police Chief. Police Department Employees who are qualified and do train new employees shall be credited with twelve (12) hours of comp time for each seven (7) days of training accomplished, subject to the approval and monitoring of the Police Chief.
