TIME OFF BENEFITS

HOLIDAYS

Tier 1 employees shall be granted eleven (11) paid Holidays per year at the rate of pay in effect at the time the employee takes the Holiday and these shall include the following observed Holidays:

New Year’s Day Memorial Day Fourth of July

Veteran’s Day Thanksgiving

Christmas

Labor Day

32 hours Personal Leave

For non-public Safety employees, holidays that fall on a Saturday shall be observed on the preceding Friday and Holidays that fall on a Sunday shall be observed on the following Monday. The Personal Holidays shall be taken at the employee's discretion with the approval of the immediate supervisor, but must be taken by July 1 st following the first full year of employment. To qualify for Holiday pay, the employee must have worked or taken vacation or personal leave, the day before and the day after the observed Holiday unless excused therefrom by the City Manager upon the recommendation of the immediate supervisor. Holiday time will be considered as time worked in computing total hours. Those hours worked on a designated holiday, which result in the workweek having more than forty (40) hours, shall be credited as double time. Personal leave and vacation time are not counted as time worked when computing the total hours. Employees may not return from vacation just to work Holidays or overtime unless requested to do so. Police officers and dispatchers shall observe the holidays on the calendar day on which they fall and if their shift requires them to work a holiday they shall be entitled to comp time equal to two and one half times the holiday time worked. If a holiday falls on an officer’s or dispatcher’s day off, he/she shall be entitled to comp time on an hour for hour basis. Fire Department employees shall observe the holidays on the calendar day on which they fall and if their shift requires them to work on a holiday they shall be entitled to comp time equal to two and one-half (2 ½) times the holiday time worked. If a holiday falls on a Fire Department employee’s day off, he shall be entitled to comp time equal to one day.

Examples of Holiday pay (Police and Dispatchers):

1. Holiday Worked: Employee will receive day’s pay (or time off) equal to 2.5 times the rate of pay. 29
