When two (2) or more employees request vacation for the same period, and not all can be spared from work for the same period, the employee or employees granted vacation will be based on order of request and department requirements on the dates requested.

SICK LEAVE Sick leave will be granted to all Tier 1 employees on the following basis:

1. Sick leave can be used only for bona fide sickness or non-work related accidental injury of the employee only. Sick leave may be used for medical or dental appointments of the employee which cannot be made during non-work hours. Sick leave is for personal illness and injury and is not to be used for family illness. Provided, however, an employee may use six (6) days of accumulated sick leave each calendar year in the case of serious illness in the employee's immediate family (spouse, child, parent, brother or sister) or for the birth of a child. 2 Each tier 1 employee shall accrue sick leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per month. Sick leave days accumulate from year to year with no maximum limit. Sick leave will count as time worked in computing overtime. 3 Any employee who requests sick leave shall contact the Department Head or designee at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the beginning of the employee's scheduled shift. 4. A medical verification of illness or injury may be required by the Employer for the substantiation of the need for sick leave; however a doctor’s certificate will be required after three (3) days absence. 5. Any employee who used no sick leave during a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) shall be granted eight (8) additional hours of paid personal leave to be taken the following fiscal year. This personal leave may be taken at any time with the immediate supervisor’s approval. Department Heads will be responsible for this procedure and award the benefit. 6. Upon leaving service with the City, for any reason, an employee will be paid for 320 hours of unused accumulated sick leave, or one-half (1/2) of the employee’s accumulated sick leave, whichever is less except any employee who is terminated due to the commission of a crime shall forfeit any accrued, unpaid sick leave benefits.

FUNERAL LEAVE All Tier I employees may be granted up to three days paid leave of absence for a death in his or her immediate family. The term “three days” does not automatically mean three work days.
