Weekends, vacation, and holidays may or may not be considered as part of the funeral leave, depending on the arrangements made with the supervisor. Immediate family will include husband, wife, son, daughter, father, mother, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, grandparents, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, stepchildren and step parents. An employee may be granted one-half day leave of absence to be charged to sick leave to attend the funeral of other relatives or friends not included in the above categories when the distance is less than 25 miles from Spencer. If the distance is greater than 25 miles, an employee may be granted one day of absence to be charged to sick leave to attend the services. Employees may also be allowed a reasonable amount of time off without loss of pay to attend the funeral of another City employee or a current elected or appointed City official if that funeral is observed on a normal work day. JURY DUTY / COURT LEAVE An employee required to serve as a Juror shall receive his/her regular wages less any remuneration received by the employee for Jury service, excluding mileage and meals, provided the employee furnishes satisfactory evidence that Jury duty was performed on the days for which he/she claims payment. When an employee is excused from Jury service, either temporarily or permanently, on any scheduled workday, the employee shall promptly report to his/her immediate supervisor and shall complete any remaining hours of his/her scheduled workday if required. Jury Duty / Court Leave shall not be extended to include subpoenaed witnesses. Such leave shall be granted as unpaid leave or an employee may use accrued vacation hours or accumulated compensatory time. An exception may be granted if the employee should be subpoenaed on behalf of the City of Spencer in a pending litigation. WORK COMP / INJURY LEAVE Every employee of the City who is injured on the job shall make a report of the injury immediately to his/her supervisor on forms provided for this purpose; which is the regular worker’s compensation first report of injury form. This reporting requirement also applies to any accident that involves a City vehicle. If a City employee is unable to perform his or her normal duties as a result of work injury, the City will pay to the employee his/her regular compensation for up to the first three (3) days of temporary disability, charged to Injury Leave, on the condition that, if the employee later receives worker’s compensation benefits for any days for which the City paid compensation, the City may deduct from the employee’s next paycheck compensation for those days for which the employee received workers compensation benefits. Time for doctor’s appointments will be charged to Injury Leave, unless employee is off work more than 3 days and is reimbursed by Worker’s Compensation. 32
