EC Meeting Papers January 2019

Benefit to trade union members would include:

● A local platform for trade union activists to speak about their work and

campaigns, and an opportunity to promote trade unionism, especially to

younger audiences.

● A local platform for trade union educationalists to run workshops and take their

political education programmes into the community and to a broader audience.

● Offer members supplementary opportunities for political development

alongside existing trade union courses.

● Our online digital education hub will offer resources useful for trade union

educators and a route for wider dissemination of trade union education

programmes.

Implementation:

Within the first 14 months of the project we will deliver:

A pilot programme of popular education clubs:

- Identify 6-8 pilot areas based on diverse criteria (geography; marginal seats;

demographics).

- Identify key volunteer organisers in target areas..

- Work with a team of experienced educators to design and deliver a

skillshare/training programme for popular education club organisers.

- Work with experienced educators to develop a guide and template content for

clubs, responding to current gaps in provision and based off lessons from

socialist clubs and TWT’s ‘Take Back Control’ political education tour.

- Provide on the ground and online support for pilot organisers and educators

- Commission further content from partners.
