They do hear a mysterious voice speaking to Saul, but they cannot comprehend the source or the meaning of the sounds. The soldiers are speechless before this strange happening, staring in dazed amazement at their fallen leader. Saul, the proud leader of the death squad, fallen from his horse, now lies crumpled on the ground, unable to move, see, or hardly breathe. The dazzling light with laser-beam intensity engulfs Saul, rendering him completely immobile. This is not natural sunlight; rather this blinding light is divine light from heaven, and only Saul sees it ! Instantly, Saul’s natural eyes were blinded and covered with scales; however, his sensory perception now registers the brilliant white light as originating and flowing from Jesus, the Son of God, and the Son of Man. Although Saul’s outer man is blind, his inner man, the spiritual part of him, has sight for the first time! Reality breaks upon Saul’s confused mind; he knows beyond any doubt that the Figure of Light is none other than the resurrected, ascended, glorified Jesus, the living Christ who has overcome death, hell, and the grave.
