I Appeal To Caesar!

Saul cannot see, eat, or sleep, nor does he have a desire to communicate with anyone. He is in “a no-man’s land” where time and activity do not exist. One thing he knows, and the experience is new and challenging: an unusual, abiding awareness of God has come upon him! Then, a serious thought jolts his mind! Those official authorizations of the High Priest to arrest the Jesus people! What must he do? Only one thing now seems appropriate: burn the parchments and release the soldiers to return to Caiaphas with the story.

A knock at the door interrupts his serious decision!

Artemus has returned.

“Come quickly, listen carefully,” Saul speaks in a quiet,

deliberate tone of voice.

“Artemus,” Saul confesses, “I cannot be responsible for this terrible assignment any longer. I have met the Christ of these people, and he is now my personal Savior. I can no longer defend or justify the wanton killing and injuring of innocent people and the destruction of families so dedicated to both the Torah and Jesus the Christ. “I wish two things. First, I want to burn with fire — consume completely —the authorized warrant by Caiaphas to arrest the Christians. I do not want you or any of the men who came with me to pursue this mad course of action here in Damascus, and it cannot legally proceed without this written authorization. I want to burn the warrants now !
