I Appeal To Caesar!

Ananias’ joy is boundless! “The Abana River is only a short distance north of us, running parallel to Straight Street! That will be the best place!”

Artemus arrives, and the excited men urge him to join

them.

Staring in amazement, Artemus is overwhelmed by Saul’s present ability to see and his bubbling faith in Jesus Christ. Saul’s emotion-charged testimony has a deep impact, so much so that, as they reach the river, Artemus exclaims, “I, too, now believe in Jesus the Christ and wish to be baptized in His name!” Three joyful men wade out into the flowing river until they are waist deep. Standing together, tears rolling down their cheeks, they raise their hands in adoration to God. They are not in a hurry, for God’s glorious presence has settled upon them. The gurgling sounds of the river give the impression that the river itself has joined their joyful worship. Ananias, as the baptizer, proffers the vital, all-important question: “Are you two candidates willing to dedicate your lives to Jesus Christ?” Saul responds with a joyful testimony of God’s grace, and Artemus gives thanks to God for receiving him. Ananias grasps Saul first, supporting his back with one hand and holding Saul’s clasped hands on his breast with the other hand. “In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,” Ananias states emphatically “I baptize you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Messiah, and Savior.” Then he declares with spiritual unction, “Be filled with the Holy Spirit!”
