Saul also spends time in prayer, personally reviewing all the events in his life, pinpointing key Scriptures to verify his conclusions. The in-depth, scholarly meetings (sometimes like a debate) with Samuel and Esther, outstanding scholars now both filled with the Spirit, have brought a higher level of excellence to his academic understanding and explanation. Last but not least, his concern for the small Jewish congregation has awakened a new love for exercising pastoral oversight. One day, Saul and Esther go to one of the Jewish homes to pray for a mother who is quite ill with a high fever. They anoint with oil, from a small flask they carry, laying their hands upon the bedridden woman, both praying a fervent, Spirit-enabled prayer for healing to occur. As they watch, a healing change does begin to happen; in fact, soon the woman bounds from her sickbed and begins to fix some refreshment for them! What a wonderful experience! They leave the woman and family with great joy in their hearts that God does indeed still heal the sick. Marvelous! * * * * * Several days later, a startling development occurs. Esther herself develops the same symptoms from which the mother had been healed, and now she is burning with fever!
