I Appeal To Caesar!

“I am sorry to startle you,” Jesus begins, “but you were so persistent about climbing this mountain I had to wait until you were at least half-way up. After our last meeting, I realize you might expect a more glorious appearance of Me now, maybe like My transfiguration on Mt. Hermon. “Saul, my first appearance to you in blinding light was as the Son of God, but now I come to you as the Son of Man . I feel the warmth of the fire, I relate to your serious inquiry, I desire your personal companionship: all of this is very important and real to me. I know, of course, of your marriage to Esther, and the deep anguish you have felt when losing her. I assure you, she is now in a much better place. “Saul, you now realize the pain you caused me when you killed, tortured and hurt My followers. There was no other way to make you truly understand and be sympathetic. You will find that from time to time that pain will reoccur. “Now, however, we share a common understanding, one that will enable you to reach out to both the heathen Gentiles and unbelieving Jews.” Saul begins to weep and sinks to his knees. He asks — yes, pleads — for forgiveness! Soon, the severe pain lessens; he opens his eyes and looks at Jesus. Understanding, love and compassion envelope Saul, and he becomes a child, eager to learn. He now knows, without a doubt, that he is forgiven.

“Lord,” Saul asks, “What do you want me to do?”
