The Holy Spirit will guide you.” * * * * * Jesus pauses, smiles and says, “Before I leave, I have a gift for you.” Jesus holds out a closed right hand; His fist glistens with brilliant light breaking through his fingers! His hand opens and Saul in amazement stares at a white stone of exquisite beauty, bursting with light. Bending closer, Saul scrutinizes the brilliant stone. He sees a word, a name, written on the stone! Bending closer, trembling with excitement, Saul realizes the name has special significance for him! He is startled to read “ Paulus” (meaning, “the little one,” “the small one”), which is actually one of Saul’s own three Roman names. The stone bears his unused, unwanted, neglected and unappreciated name! “As you know,” Jesus continues, “you have been known as ‘Saul,’ a name indicating pride and power. Your present humility, however, has been a delight to the LORD your God; this more suitable and genuine name will be yours for regular use as you serve God’s people. Every time you hear ‘Paul’ remember that you have been christened with a working name in high standing with God, and also that God’s ‘power is perfected in weakness.’ My advice: ‘Stay small in your own estimation!’
