aul’s remarkable escapes from Damascus, Petra and Jerusalem and his return from Mt. Sinai, provide quite an adventure! Our present story does not include Paul’s ensuing “missionary journeys,” although astounding and wonderful things did transpire; that story will be told at a later time. Consider, however, Roland Allen’s summary of that missing decade (A. D. 47 and 57): “In little more than ten years St. Paul established the Church in four provinces of the Empire, Galatia, Macedonia, Achaia and Asia. Before A. D. 47 there were no Churches in these provinces; in A. D. 57 St Paul could speak as if his work there was done and could plan extensive tours into the far West without anxiety lest the Churches which he had founded might perish in his absence for want of his guidance and support.” Missionary Methods: St. Paul’s or Ours? London, 1927, p. 3. Our story resumes when Paul is a man in his mid-to- late 50’s. The persecutor of the followers of Jesus the Christ has become the greatest witness and advocate of that same Jesus—converting sinners instead of executing saints! Paul now returns to Jerusalem (for his last time), hoping also to travel on and minister in Rome, finally pushing on to new frontiers in the West, like Spain.
