I Appeal To Caesar!

repeatedly writing letters to Christians and churches throughout the empire!” Warren Wiersbe, The Bible Exposition Commentary, Vol. II, p. 68.

P. 6 1 Timothy 2:8 . Paul believed in raising his hands in worship

P. 7 Tychicus. Ephesians 6:21; Colossians 4:7; Titus 3:12.

P. 8 Did Paul go to Spain? Some commentators say Paul traveled to Spain, and some say even to Great Britain. There is not sufficient local tradition to accept this as authentic. Consider the challenging comments of S. W. McBirnie, The Search for the Twelve Apostles. After much research he doubts that Paul went to Spain. P. 9 F. F. Bruce , The Spreading Flame, p. 140: “in the sixties it was no longer possible to regard Christianity (outside Palestine) as simply a variety of Judaism.” P. 11 Taking advantage of the fire. Nero began the city’s reconstruction in the Greek style, also beginning construction of a fabulous palace—the Golden House—which if it had been finished would have covered half of Rome. P. 13 Paul’s arrest in Troas. “In Troas on the northeastern shore of the Aegean, foes of Christianity seized Paul and accused him of treason. Once more Paul appealed for trial in Rome and returned to the capital, where he swiftly became another victim of Nero’s wrath.” Wright, G. Ernest, Great People of the Bible and How They Lived, p. 417. P. 13 “Paul the prisoner.” Both the Roman soldiers and he himself used this phrase. Note Acts 23:18; Ephesians 3:1; 2 Timothy 1:8; Philemon 1, 9. Paul has been in “public custody” (as in a common jail, Acts 16:19) but now he is in “military custody” (he will be chained to a Roman soldier who is responsible for him).

P. 15 2 Timothy 2:8, 9. “But the Word of God is not chained!”

P. 15 “My Departure is at hand,” 2 Timothy 4:6, 7. “I have finished the race … I have kept the faith!”
