Saul, uncomfortable, nervous and lacking in words blurts out, “You have a marvelous way of illustrating your messages with interesting stories. . . but truthfully, I was somewhat shaken by your reference to the Pharisee and his manner of prayer.” Jesus smiles—unflustered and without pretense—and gives an instant, sincere response, “Thank you so much for your honest comment.” Then, continuing with complete openness Jesus says, “As I have grown up in synagogues for the past thirty years, it has seemed to me some Pharisees do have a propensity for prideful praying. Have you noticed that at all? ” Caught off guard by Jesus’ swift, direct response, Saul finds himself groping for words, “Well . . . I can understand why the illustration does register in people’s minds. . . . “Your manner of prayer, singing and using simplistic, powerful illustrations is quite impressive. I will try to incorporate more of this into my own synagogue presentations.” At this point, Peter arrives to escort Jesus from the Courtyard. Jesus gives each of His two visitors a sincere bear hug, surprising the two men with the strength they feel in his arms!
