I Appeal To Caesar!

Upon arrival at the called meeting, Saul glances around at the seating arrangement, estimating forty-to-fifty older men will attend; most have arrived, some are still outside. Saul knows them all by name and has been a consultant to many of them. He greets a few friends personally as he comes in, then spotting Nicodemus nearby, slides into the empty seat beside his aged friend. The seating is arranged much as in the Sanhedrin’s regular meeting place, in a semi-circular fashion, with one seat in the front facing the audience. Caiaphas will occupy the more elaborate, cushioned seat of honor.

It is an impressive setting, especially since all present

are wearing their official religious paraphernalia.

Just before the meeting begins, six servants rush in, each carrying an extra chair, placing three on each side of Caiaphas’ ornate chair; they exit quickly!

Finally, it appears that everyone invited has arrived.

Saul’s fears are accurate! He is the youngest person present, and he has not been prepped on what will be said! Nevertheless, in a strange sort of way, Saul feels that he belongs with this group of older men; it is his destiny to be here at this very time and spot. A change seems to be taking place . . . .
