AWARD WINNING CLASSES Saturday, April 24, marked the first anniversary of the Alumni Class Asso– ciate Program, launched in 1992 to help bring USD's graduating classes closer to the university on a more per– sonalized basis. Following the Alumni Summit, class chairs, committee members and corre– spondents gathered with the Alumni Board and key university administra– tors for an awards luncheon. At the luncheon, last year's reunion classes were recognized for special reunion– year achievements. USD President Author E. Hughes and Charles LiMandri '77, president of the Alumni Association, presented four new awards during the afternoon pro– gram. Awards have been designed to recognize the reunion class with the highest attendance at its reunion, the reunion class with the highest percent participation in their reunion class gift, and the reunion class with the highest dollar amount raised for its reunion gift. A special award, the Founders Award, has been created to recognize the class chair who embodies the spirit of the Alumni Class Associate Pro– gram. The Class of 1982, led by class chair Rick Howard, was the recipient of the first Reunion Achievement Award, with the largest reunion attendance. Leading last year's reunion classes for the Reunion Class Gift Highest Partici– pation Award was the Class of 1957, led by Carol [Burke) Couture, with 42 percent of the class participating in the class gift. The Class of 1977, led by Donald Altomonte, was the recipient of the Reunion Class Gift Award for the highest dollar amount raised, with their class gift totaling $26,575. The recipi– ent of the Founders Award, a former Bishop Buddy Award recipient, was John Bowman '60, for the die-hard Torero spirit he has used to bring his class closer to USD.

Murphy '86 and his wife, Diana, announce the birth of a son, Ryan Patrick, on Aug. 5. They live in Tempe, Ariz., where Peter is a registered representative for Charles Schwab & Co... . Mary (Francis) Tasker '86 and H. Treak Tasker '86 had their first child, William Fisher, on Dec. 15. The family lives in Pleasant Hill, Calif... . Suzanne (Leonard) Fitzpatrick '87 sends news of the birth of a daughter, Kelsey Ann, on Oct. 4. The Fitzpatricks live in Jacaville, Calif... . Renetta (Hohman) Hendricks '87 and her husband, Brent, celebrated the birth of a son, Nathan, on July 15. The family recently moved from San Angelo, Texas, to Colorado Springs. Renetta writes that she taught kinder– garten for four years, but she now plans to "stay home with Nathan to be a mom." .. . Diane (Telford) Reed-Chong '87 and her husband, Glenn, announce the birth of a son, Ryan, on Oct. 22. Diane is an R.N. and utilization management coordinator at Green Hospital of Scripps Clinic in La Jolla.... Mary T. Warburton-Voss '87 and her husband, Paul, announce the birth of a son, Joseph Kirby, on June 17, 1992. Mary and Paul are both run– ning the young adult program for high school graduates at their parish.... Andrew Kownacki '89 and his wife, Angie, announce the birth of a daughter, Lauren, on Sept. 23. Andrew is a staff accountant for San Diego County.... Diane (Sawyer] Krallman '89 and her husband, Steve, celebrated the birth of their first child on July 11. She resigned from her position as human resources administrator of Care Part– ners to be a full-time mom. The Krallmans live in San Diego.... Mary (Carson) Dawes '91 and her husband, Kenneth, announce the birth of a daughter, Tiffany Kaitlyn, on Aug. 21. They live in San Diego, where Mary is a teacher at Brooklyn Elementary....Vanessa Harris '91 sends news of the birth of a son, Patrick Edward, on July 25. Vanessa lives in San Diego and works in the law offices of John M. Preston....Traci (Tomlinson) Hoppes '91 (J.D.) and her husband, Carl, announce the birth of a daughter, Catrina Louise, on Aug. 18.
