Thedayoneleaders,TusculumColegeteamofNickHartfieldandCoreyNeece,hadanarow leadofonlyouncesoverDakotaEbareandJustinSeetonfromTarletonStateUniversity,as welasSloanPenningtonandHunterMcCartyfromtheUniversityofNorthAlabama.Sitingin fourthandfifth,respectively,wereWyatYoungandTuckerSargentanotherteamfromTar- letonStateUniversity,andthedefendingChampionsMitchelJenningsandColeBurdeshaw fromAuburnUniversity. Aspaterninformationbegantotricklein,thereportsofanglersthrowingswimbaits,deep divingcrankbaits,andbigfluterspoonsaswelasteninchwormsshowedthatthebitewas alovertheplace.Eventualyeventmanyteamsmovedtoevenfinessetechniquesinhopeof triggeringabiggerbite.Atmidmorningtheracewasstiltightandwithoutwindandcurent itappeareditmightstaythatwayaldaylong.ThenitalchangedastheTVAletoutmoreand morewaterandtheculingbeganforteamsincontentionlikeAuburnandTheUniversityof NorthAlabama.
