Thefinaldayofthe2017BoatUSColegiateBassFishingChampionshippresentedbyCabela’s onPickwickLakebeganwithcalmandcoolconditions.Howanotherweatherchangewould afectthefishingconditionswasonthemindsofthetopfiveteams,alofwhomhadweighed inmorethan20poundsondayone. Thedayoneleaders,TusculumColegeteamofNickHartfieldandCoreyNeece,hadanarow leadofonlyouncesoverDakotaEbareandJustinSeetonfromTarletonStateUniversity,as welasSloanPenningtonandHunterMcCartyfromtheUniversityofNorthAlabama.Sitingin fourthandfifth,respectively,wereWyatYoungandTuckerSargentanotherteamfromTar- letonStateUniversity,andthedefendingChampionsMitchelJenningsandColeBurdeshaw fromAuburnUniversity. Altheteamswerehopefulforasimilarstartondaytwothatwasseenondayone,wherea fastandfuriousstartformanyteamshadthemcatchingthemoneaftertheother.Tosaythe least,altheteamsincontentionhadveryhighhopesandexpectationsfortheChampionship finalday. Theonlythingleftwastogambleonalongrunorstickclosertotakeof.Withtheslickcondi- tionsatsunrise,itdidn’ttakelongforaltheteamstodecideonmakingalongrun.Withthe TVAscheduledtobepulingverylitlewaterfromtheWilsonLakeDam,theearlymorningbite wasnoticeablyslowerthanondayone.Reportsoffishcatchesstartedtoslowlycomeinand itseemedthedeepbitewastheonethatanglerswereconcentratingontostarttheday,but forthetopfiveteamsfromdayone,thefishwerealconsiderablysmalertostarttheday.
TusculumColegeteamofNickHartfield andCoreyNeeceweighin23.92pounds totaketheleadonDay1.
