charges. The Austrians cannot use their cavalry on its own to initiate an offensive move. Once the Austrian cavalry is used up, the Infantry will really be at the mercy of the combined arms of France. 7. Leadership - The success of the battalions in conflict depends on the fighting spirit of the unit (s) and not on some individual concept of the commander. As the rush of a person of high rank could have a profound advantage in the short term it could also have the negative effect on the operations of a unit. Leaders should focus on the recovery of units that have lost their will to defend their brothers or organization of Korps artillery. 8. The Imperial Artillerie is divided into Position, Brigade and Kavalrie Batterien. The Korps it is assigned to, has the responsibility for its placement. Only on rare occasions is it advantageous to combine the artillerie form other korps. Position Batterien are the long range weapons of the Korps and are used to give weight to a particular strong point. It takes much effort to establish a position batterie and may take a great deal more to remove it once established. 9. The Brigade batterien provide the direct support to infantry battalions and thus are part of the early deployment of the brigade. A single Brigade battarie favorably augments the volleys of an infantry battalion deployed in to a two hex formation. This is especially true as the Brigade batterie and the deployed battalion, advance to be adjacent to the enemy. Without this fire augmentation the deployed battalion, despite its numbers, may not enjoy a superiority of fire. 10. Kavalrie Batterien are used in mobile support but need an appropriate area to spread out and provide harassing fire. This is especially useful in rearguard situations or should Reserve Kavalrie be sent to KB’s area.
