( b ) Manufactured Soil 2 (88% sand + 8 % clay + 4 % humus).— In each of two 1 L 498 acid-washed jars, place 440 g silica sand. To each jar, add 40 g Montmorillonite clay and 499 20 g humus. Tightly close each jar with a Teflon-lined lid and mix on a 3-dimensional 500 soil mixer for at least 18 h.
