Celebrating 100 Years of Design

To honor Couristan’s century-long legacy in design, our team explored how the abstraction of biomorphic forms shaped the prevailing aesthetic from the 1920s to the 2020s and beyond. The streamlined geometry and simplification of organic motifs have become a hallmark of carpet and rug design throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Couristan opened its doors as this new design philosophy was emerging. Its style was evident in the graphics of Le Bon Ton, Erté, the Ballet Russe, and Paul Poiret. Pochoir-printed textile books ushered in a century of abstracted textile patterns. Organic forms became central motifs, inspired by artists such as Burkhalter, Séguy, Verneuil, Dufy, and Picasso. Today, we champion the natural world and our intense fascination with biophilic references, vegetation and earth’s minerals. Our carpet designers have played with organic form and geometry, employing sophisticated interplays of lithe organic motifs. The resulting collection of designs will sit beautifully within any contemporary interior. This collection is a springboard to develop exceptional carpet concepts.
