COMPETITIONS AS CATALYSTS FOR CAREERS IN WELDING
AICHI PREFECTURAL HIGH SCHOOLS OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY (continued)
Exhibit “FLYING TO THE FUTURE” The adult beetle flying into the future reflects the vigorous will of humanity to survive daily life on earth. It is the intention of our exhibit to also depict our desire to thrive in the future. The main welding process used was oxy-acetylene welding. The materials welded were mainly thin steel plates and deformed round bars. Fine parts were crafted using polished round bars and annealed wires. Lacquer spray was applied as a coating. Aichi Prefectural Kasugai High School of Engineering and Technology / The 3rd year grade of Mechanical Engineering Class / Competition Team: Mr. Ryohei Ohsima with five other team members. Dimensions: 25cm x 25cm x 55cm Exhibit “A WILD LION CATCHES A RABBIT IN TEAMWORK” The team’s inspiration for this work is to show the value and satisfaction of achieving a desired goal when working as a team, a concept which needs to be instilled in future generations. The exhibit demonstrates the beauty and energy of wild animals hunting, using skills which have been handed down over many generations, learning by trial and error. The exhibit was intricately welded, as each lion’s mane was constructed piece by piece. Initially, the students formed a skeleton which resembled the shape of the part by bending a steel plate, assembling by welding and by overlay welding in some places. To make the hair, they cut a thin plate into small pieces and welded them, and changed each of the hairs into a main bending shape giving a three dimensional effect. Aichi Prefectural Okazaki High School of Engineering and Technology / Machine Designing Class / Competition Team: Ms. Mai Kajita and three other team members. Dimensions: 25cm x 25cm x 45cm
