WELDED ART PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION THE ARTISTIC SOUL OF WELDING
WELDED ART TO CREATE EMPLOYMENT AND IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT
In 2015, world leaders agreed that the United Nations (UN) would implement 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at improving the quality of life of low and middle income countries. On an annual basis, each UN country is tasked to measure its progress against the targets and indicators set against each SDG. A country’s national welding capability can make a significant contribution to, and have a very positive effect on, improving the SDGs. For example,in a country such as India with a population of over 1.2 billion people and high unemployment and poverty, a key objective linked to the SDGs is to create jobs and at the same time protect the environment. This IIW 2021 Digital Collection Category showcases an example of one organisation which is leading by example with welded art in uplifting the SDGs related to poverty and the environment in India. ArtCroc which is a registered brand of Infine Art Ventures LLP, a DPIIT (Govt of India) recognised Art Start-up for its unique idea of creating beautiful sculptures from scrap metal. Converting scrap into valuable art pieces is an innovative way to show concern for the environment by encouraging the
masses to reuse, reduce and recycle for a better future. The exhibit “Human with Humanoid” illustrates this.
