feathered headdress, used in antiquity by warriors as a symbol of heredity and courage.

Customary clothing for Latinos is mostly colorful, and the dresses include several key pieces that have historical importance. In the southern zone of America, a characteristic shared by practically all countries is the use of multicolored fabrics. The typical costumes for women are similar too, with the use of long and flying skirts, ornaments on the head and various beads. We are happy to showcase models from different countries of Latin America in this special edition of Latina Fashion Magazine, including Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, Brazil, Peru and Venezuela. ‘El Poncho’ - square of fabric with an opening in the center for the head used in the indigenous cultures of Central and South Amer- ica originated from the mantles of the Victorian Era. The Bolero Jacket - short jacket made of silk, velvet or wool with embroidered details and silver buttons, originated from the waist jacket worn by cattle herders. The Tango Skirts (‘Faldas de Tango’), which have an opening in the front to allow movement and often have layers of simple ruffles, were developed with the tango dance in Argentina. Another garment typical of Latin America used today includes the ‘Peasant Blouse’, originated in Mexico at the beginning of the 17th century and the Shawl (‘El Chal’), which was worn by Spanish women to cover their heads during the Middle Ages. The well-known dresses of Cuba are made mostly with natural cotton for comfort to withstand high temperatures. Men usually wear jeans or cotton, and at the top a shirt known as ‘Guayabera’- shirt with pockets and sometimes embroidery. From Colombia we highlight the typical costumes of the Caribbe- an Region where a large part of the population is of African origin with multi-colored attires. At last Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador use costumes often related to their typical dances of the country. Thus, in Venezuela, the one of ‘Los Llanos’ (The plains) stands out, known as ‘Liqui Liqui’ – white outfit adorned with buttons. Some examples of exclusive pieces from Latin America are:
