Den Kongelige Malerisamling, The Boy at Gallery o f Paintings , occupies the upper story o f Christiansborg Palace. Founded by Christian I V ., and greatly augmented by succeeding K ings through the purchase o f different private collections, it contains about 1 0 0 0 Paintings, among which are m any of much value o f the Ita lia n , D u tch , and F lem ish schools. It is worthy o f a visit were it only to view Salvator Rosa’s splendid picture o f Jonah preaching to the Ninevites , painted ex­ pressly for the K ing o f Denmark. Dr. Clarke, speaking o f this painting in his "Scandinavia," says, "The talents o f Salvator are often estimated from his works in landscape-painting; but his landscapes afford very inadequate proofs o f his superior merit. H is main excellence consisted in the delineation of story; w itness his Conspiracy o f Catiline; witness also his inspiring picture in the royal gallery of Denmark, which represents The preaching o f Jonah to the Ninevites.
