B o th­ well now lo st no tim e in rep resentin g to the K ing, in a m em o ria l, th a t he w as sent by Q ueen M ary, h is C onsort, to dem and F re d e rik ’s aid an d assistance again st h e r rebellious subjects; that, in retu rn , he w as autho rised by her to resto re to the K in g o f D enm ark the isles o f O rkney and S h etlan d , (which had been pledged to the C row n o f Scotland in lieu of a p ecuniary dow ery th a t should have been paid a t a form er p eriod on the m arriag e of a D anish P rincess w ith a Scottish K in g ); and th at, as soon as the object o f his m ission to D enm ark w as ac­ com p lished, he w ished imm ediately to proceed to F ra n c e , being charged w ith a sim ilar m ission to th e French Court.
