London Crossrail was ArcelorMittal WireSolutions’ first infrastructure contract for steel fibers in the UK market, where they are being used as the sole reinforcement in the production of tunnel segments. Between 2011 and 2013, ArcelorMittal WireSolutions signed three contracts to supply a total of 12,000 tonnes of steel fibers to London Crossrail. “These are two excellent examples of our leading position in the steel fiber business. With this success, we have strengthened our team of tunnelling specialists in the company,” said José Ramón González, ArcelorMittal’s steel fiber manager.

ArcelorMittal WireSolutions is to supply around 21,500 tonnes of steel fibers for use in three lines of Qatar’s new Doha Metro. This will be WireSolutions’ first delivery of steel fibers to the Middle East, and the company’s largest ever delivery of steel fiber. The Doha Metro, currently under construction in Qatar’s capital city, is on track to start operating in late 2019 with 98 stations on four lines, an approximate overall length of 300km. Use of the premium quality steel fibers results in overall cost savings by reducing the amount of concrete and steel required.
