What is the Sesqui Video Distribution Project?

Historica Canada’s Sesqui Video Distribution Project team has distributed 400,000 Google Cardboard VR viewers to schools across the country. Each viewer, in combination with a cellphone and a Wi-Fi connection, will allow students from Grades 7 to 12 to watch Horizon, the showpiece film produced by SESQUI Inc. Historica Canada has developed a complementary bilingual learning tool, the SESQUI Education Guide, available at ExploreSesqui.ca. This guide and associated worksheets help educators and students connect the 360˚ video experience with curriculum-relevant topics in geography, history, social studies, Indigenous studies and art. ExploreSesqui.ca is home base for a wide variety of content: - Sesqui Inc.’s 360° film Horizon (in its entirety and in five distinct chapters); - The SESQUI Education Guide and accompanying worksheets; - Curricular connections for all provinces and territories; - Assembly instructions for virtual reality viewers.

What is the difference between Virtual Reality and 360°?

Virtual Reality (VR) is an interactive experience whereby the viewer is involved or immersed in the actual experience. 360° is a passive experience whereby the viewer is immersed in “surround” content which has been filmed from every direction to create the experience of 360 space. However, the viewer does not shape the outcome. The Google Cardboard viewer can be used to access both, but Horizon is a 360° film only.
