ATCC strains specified for use must either be obtained directly from ATCC or be traceable to direct procurement from ATCC. Bacterial strains should be of foodborne

origin and the source should be provided.

3.2 If not directly obtained from ATCC (or other internationally recognizable reference source), or if the species and serotype information are not provided by the source, the identity of each strain must be determined and documented using biochemical and

serological methods .

3.3 One or more technicians should prepare samples and a second or more technicians

should perform the assays on “blind” coded samples.

3.4 All samples must be fully randomized and labeled with a code so that the analyst performing the assays is unaware of the level or type of bacterial culture present. 3.5 Raw foods, processed foods, animal products, and their contact surfaces may contain harmful microorganisms or pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes , hemorrhagic E.

coli , and Salmonella .

3.6 Take care in handling raw food and animal products, and the developed tests as they

may contain these potential hazardous microorganisms.

3.7 If direct contact or spillage occurs, thoroughly wash affected area using detergent and water for skin and clothing; and disinfectant for other surfaces. If eye or mouth contact rinse thoroughly. If there is a subsequent illness, irritation or infection contact a ERP Use Only physician. 3.8 Avoid contact with tests samples and Peel Plate EB medium. Perform tests and handle developed tests wearing personal protective equipment such as eye wear, lab coats and gloves. 3.9 Perform test on a level surface in a clean area, free of dust and blowing air. 3.10 After plating, re-seal adhesive cover so that it lays flat with no wrinkles to avoid drying

out the rehydrated medium during incubation.

3.11 To reduce the potential of sample cross contamination, wash and disinfect, glassware

and work area in contact with foods and developed tests.
