HOT TOPICS •TheOhio STEMLearning Network andOhio Department of Educationwill host four regional meetings for schools that are considering applying for STE(A)M designation. STEAM schools add instruction in the arts to their science, technology, mathematics and engineering (STEM) curricula. Registration for all the sessions above is available here . • Career advising policies, as required in Ohio law, should be reviewed and updated by local boards of education during the 2018-2019 biennium. Districts should post their policies in prominent locations on their district websites. This refresher video outlines essential questions districts’ career advising policies should answer and offers tools to help implement policies. Important Dates Approaching •Monday, September 30 is the deadline for applying for grant funds available through the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Ohio Department of Education to support graduate coursework for high school teachers who need additional qualifications to teach college courses under the College Credit Plus program. For more information and to view eligibility requirements, click here . •Monday, September 30 is the submission deadline for the C areer-Tech Middle Grades Waiver form . •Monday, September 30 is the deadline for school districts and/or educational service centers to create and submit their business advisory council plans to the Ohio Department of Education through the Data Submission Forms App in the OH|ID Web Portal . Districts that have entered agreements to have an ESC’s business advisory council represent the business of the district do not need to upload separate plans, but the Department asks those districts to answer questions in the Data Submissions Forms application identifying their supporting ESCs. •The Ohio Department of Education and Ohio Department of Higher Education are partnering to offer a competitive grant opportunity for Ohio districts and schools to create and expand human capital strategies. Those interested in applying should complete the Intent to Submit survey by Monday, September 30.
