September Beacon

Hello to All and I’m hoping that you’re enjoying this boating season so far. Also, a ‘Welcome Back’ to our returning members from the Great White North. As of this writing, I haven’t heard how the NCYC rendezvous to Alaska turned out but I’m sure that a good time was had by all. For the rest of us, we haven’t exactly been sitting idly around the Clubhouse. Lots have been going on with activities and events in full swing. The visits from our Ohio boaters seem to have been setting records this year. The Cleveland Yacht Club and Bayview Yacht Club were extremely generous in the time spent at our facility not only enjoying what we had

to offer but thoroughly had a good time exploring the Flats and surrounding area. They assured us that a return to our Club next year will be on their agenda. Returning visits by this caliber of folks is hard to turn down. The NCYC Field Day seemed to have e been a success overall. Billed as a nice relaxing day on the Island, it certainly turned out that way. Attendance to the Club and participation in the events were nice to see and it appeared that everyone enjoyed themselves. Big thanks goes out to Kathy Jarvis, Diane Corcoran and Norma Frame who set up and organized this event. Again as always, Jeff and Darla Edgerly came through with a whirlwind visit by their GM friends on one of the stops for their annual poker run. Although pushing up wards from 150 – 200 thirsty visitors, the North Channel bar attempted to keep up with their desire for libation and the Boutique was left with lean pickin’s after they were through there. A great big thanks for keeping the NCYC as one of your stops in entertaining your friends. Given the nature of the event, everyone was on their best behavior not only having a great time but also respecting our Club at the same time. I’m checking my calendar, shaking my head in disbelief that it’s already Meet the Candidates at the General Membership meeting during Labor Day weekend. This year seems to be in high gear and passing too quickly for my liking. I’m hoping that all of you can attend the meeting for it is the interest that we have in the working of our Club that makes us successful. This meeting in particular is special in that some our members are stepping up to vie for a role in our Clubs’ operation. Take a moment to listen and hear what they have to say. More importantly, support each and every one of them for their efforts in trying to make a difference. My thanks to all of you for your commitment. Our summer isn’t quite over yet. Lots of things to do are still on the calendar. I think that this is the best time of the year to enjoy both the Island and playing out on the water. The water temperature is at its’ warmest and the days are drop dead gorgeous. Have Fun and Be Safe … and I’m looking to see you on the Island.
