YEAR 12 THEATRE (IB) COURSE OUTLINE

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Theatre course is designed to enable students to experience theatre on a personal level. Students’ individual ability to be creative and imaginative, and to communicate in dramatic form, will be challenged and extended through the theoretical and practical content of the course.

ASSESSMENT OUTLINE The following table is used to determine the exit level of achievement:

In this course, students study ‘Theatre in context’, Theatre processes’ and ‘Presenting Theatre’ culminating in four assessment tasks; Solo Theatre Piece (HL) 35% Solo performance and accompanying essay Students study a performance practitioner and present a 6-8 minute performance demonstrating a selected aspect of the theory to a selected audience. Director’s Notebook (SL) 20% Individual written Students select a play text that connects to an area of their stylistic interest. They work to develop their Directorial Vision for the work through the development of a notebook and staging moments with actors. Research Presentation (SL) 20% Individual presentation and performance Students individually select a world theatre tradition. From this tradition they select a performance convention to explore in further detail, presenting their research through a multimodal presentation and a demonstration to an audience Collaborative Project (SL) 25% Group performance and accompanying portfolio In groups, students create an original work for a considered audience modelled on the practice of a professional devising company.
