Urban redevelopment plans to convert former prison

Located close to the Property is the famous Vridsløselille state prison, internationally known from the Danish Olsen Banden movies. After 156 years of faithful service, the prison shut down operations in 2015 and has served as temporary accommodation for detained refugees since then. The Property has been handed over to the state- owned property company Freja Ejendomme, which is driving a complete urban redevelopment of the area in cooperation with the Municipality of Albertslund. As outlined in a development plan from 2015, the area has been earmarked for residential redevelopment and recreative areas connecting the individual city districts and increasing the liveability of the area. At a workshop held in 2016, different architectural companies presented their ideas on how the area could be developed, and they all emphasised a revival of the spectacular old prison building.

The company, as it is structured today, was founded in 2004 by the merger of Securicor plc with Denmark-based Group 4 Falck. In its 2016 report, G4S reported an annual revenue of approx. DKK 66bn and earnings after tax of approx. DKK 1.9bn. At year-end 2016, the equity balance stood at some DKK 7.5 bn. G4S has received a BBB- credit rating by renowned S&P.
