Join us in 2017 to celebrate our golden anniversary Cranfield School of Management is hosting a wide range of exciting activities throughout 2017 to celebrate 50 years of excellence and to look forward to the next 50.

Cranfield School of Management has more than 80 full-time academic staff who are actively engaged in consultancy and business-relevant research, always close to business and government. We are dedicated to creating responsible management thinking, improving business performance and inspiring leaders to make a real impact on their organisations. We are one of Europe’s largest academic centres for applied research and a hotbed of business activity, placing our world-class faculty and doctoral researchers alongside forward-thinking industry leaders, through our vibrant networks of alumni, research collaborations and clubs. We could not be prouder of where we are today and the incredible people that have been part of our journey. Now we are delighted to celebrate our 50th anniversary and welcome the Cranfield community to celebrate with us.

Our online celebrations hub was launched with the arrival of our new executive talent in September 2016. Global travel: Celebrating worldwide

Our faculty are travelling across the globe throughout 2017 to host or participate in a range of events and activities, as a way of spreading the word about our golden anniversary.

International Business Assignment: Anniversary Special This year’s special 50th anniversary business assignment will see MBA and Executive MBA students visit Zambia, Sri Lanka, Japan and China to study business within different cultures. Various Aero India and Defence Education Event Cranfield is at Aero India this year and will be hosting an Alumni High Tea on Defence and Security Education in the same visit; a great chance to talk about the SoM anniversary with our Asian community. February International Paris Airshow Cranfield University joins major players in this global industry as they unite over the latest technological innovations. We will be sharing SoM’s impact in the aerospace industry over the last 50 years. June Academy of Management Conference: Atlanta Members of our faculty will be attending the 77th annual meeting of the Academy of Management, exploring this year’s themes and representing 50 years of knowledge and experience. August Singapore Learning Expedition A unique, game-changing experience that takes business leaders into unfamiliar environments to uncover invaluable insights, while showcasing and celebrating Cranfield’s activities in Asia. Local impact: Celebrating at home

We are hosting several exciting events on campus this year, including a major Celebrations Day and a shared anniversary with Milton Keynes, which also turns 50 this year.

Young Careers Challenge We are inviting 50 children to campus from five different schools in and around Beds and Bucks to learn about careers in our specialist fields and to take part in an exciting task about the future of city life. May Anniversary Golf Day In 2017, our annual alumni golf day is being opened up to our wider Cranfield community for a special 50th anniversary golf match in Bedford, upholding Cranfield’s tradition of sports and competition. June Celebrations Day Designed to bring together as many members of our community as possible, our major celebrations day is packed with engaging activities and key speakers, including evening host Sir Lenny Henry. July 50:Fifty - Milton Keynes and Cranfield Shared 50th Anniversary Join Cranfield School of Management and Milton Keynes for a shared 50th Anniversary showcase of world-changing research and local partnership, taking place on campus with a host of key speakers. August Venture Day: Festival of Enterprise Following 50 years of successful leadership in enterprise, we are hosting a fun event on campus full of activities that will unite alumni, friends and businesses to celebrate the spirit of enterprise. Alumni engagement: Celebrating together

From reunions to dinner receptions, many members of our valued alumni network are reuniting across the world throughout 2017 to celebrate our golden anniversary.

Alumni Reception: Japan This informal alumni meeting will be taking place with Cranfield School of Management’s Professor Richard Wilding OBE, Professor of Supply Chain Strategy. March Alumni Reception: New Zealand Another alumni reception to look forward to this year will be taking place in New Zealand and hosted by Cranfield MBA alumnus David Thompson. March MBA Alumni Reunion: London Our MBA alumni reunion for recent graduates will include a special anniversary theme this year and will be an opportunity for delegates to reflect on their time during and after Cranfield. May Alumni Reception: Zambia Colin Hudson, Director of Executive Degree Programmes at Cranfield School of Management, will be hosting an anniversary alumni reception in Zambia during this year’s MBA International Business Excursion. June SoM Alumni Reunion: Cranfield Our School of Management alumni reunion, which also features a special anniversary theme this year, is a chance to bring together members of our MBA, DBA and MSc alumni community. Student activities: Celebrating with our learners Our student-focused events this year are a way of celebrating with our anniversary learners; those who enrolled for the academic year of 2017, including our 50th anniversary MBA scholars.

Anniversary Special Start-Up Weekends Our annual start-up weekend is designed to unlock and support new venture ideas at Cranfield, and as part of our anniversary theme, our budding entrepreneurs will be exploring and preparing for the future. February and May Future Connex Celebrations This fun celebrations day is aimed at our current MBA, DBA and MSc students as a way of helping them to connect and think about the future before they start preparing to complete their studies. May Anniversary Special Investor Day A special day showcasing Cranfield’s aspiring entrepreneurs who are pitching for start-up and growth capital. Investors are very welcome to attend. July 50th Anniversary MBA Regatta 2017 marks the 26th Cranfield MBA Regatta and we will be adding a special 50th anniversary theme to this year’s event, taking place over the weekend of 14 to 16 July 2017 in the Solent stretch of sea. July 50th Anniversary Careers Fair Our annual careers fair on campus will include an additional anniversary theme this year, celebrating 50 years of supporting our students with their career development journeys. Industry events: Celebrating our knowledge These events are an exciting opportunity to celebrate the knowledge shared within our management themes and to explore the future of industries related to our MBA, DBA and MSc programmes.

Logistics Careers Event: Anniversary Special Exploring logistics and what careers may involve within this industry, this event celebrates a shared anniversary; 50 years of SoM and 10 years of our MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme. February Venture Capitalist European Finals 2017 We are delighted to be the chosen host for this year’s VCIC North European Final and we will be greeting investors, entrepreneurs and students from 6 leading business schools on campus. March Sustainable Business Round-Table Marking its 10th anniversary, the Doughty Centre for Corporate Responsibility hosts this event to discuss its latest research on mindsets, behaviours, skills & impacts of sustainable entrepreneurs. April The Future of Marketing and Sales Practice This will be an exclusive event for senior marketing professionals interested in exploring the uncertainties of marketing in tomorrow’s economy. October A Question of Economics: Do We Need Central Banks? Professor Joe Nellis hosts this hot topic discussion as we approach the year-end of our anniversary with our executive talent from the Finance sector, including MBA and MSc Finance and Management students. The afternoon section of our Celebrations Day will provide valuable insight into what the future holds for Cranfield School of Management, for both our international and local communities alike.

Awards will be issued by members of a VIP panel. Celebrations Day: Evening Gala dinner

The final phase of our anniversary Celebrations Day will be an evening of fine dining and entertainment with the day’s key speakers rejoining us to reflect on the past, present and future.

We invite our community of faculty, staff, alumni and corporate friends to rejoin us for an evening to remember as we draw our Celebrations Day to a close. The evening will commence with a champagne reception, before proceeding with a black tie gala dinner hosted by British comedy icon Sir Lenny Henry, OBE. As Co-Founder of the British Comic Relief charity organisation, Lenny understands the importance of investing in future generations, an ethos at the very heart of our plans for the next 50 years. Lenny will be introducing our guest speakers before the night breaks into music and dance with The Faithettes; acclaimed singer songwriter Paloma Faith’s backing group. The internationally known 11-piece band will be entertaining guests with a ‘through the decades’ performance, celebrating the greatest hits of the last 50 years.

Sir Lenny Henry OBE

Sir Peter Gregson was appointed Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor of Cranfield University in August 2013 and has been an integral part of the university’s development. We are delighted to welcome him to the stage to kick-start our anniversary gala dinner with some valued insight into the role of Cranfield School of Management within the University, the impact made by the staff, faculty and alumni, and where he hopes the next 50 years will take us.

As Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Director of Cranfield School of Management since February 2015, Maury is at the epicentre of the School’s current energy and enthusiasm. We are excited to hear his reflections at the gala dinner on why we should be proud and why we should be celebrating. He will be unveiling some of the great work taking place along with a celebratory film that details our journey from our origins as a Work-Study Group to a world-leading business school.

Lenny is the Co-Founder of Comic Relief and a British comedy icon, significantly contributing to Red Nose Day and the Comic Relief educational programme. Accoladed as one of the 50 funniest acts in British comedy and a household name since 1975, he received a Knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2015 for his services to drama and charity. We are delighted to welcome Lenny to host the School of Management’s 50th anniversary gala dinner.
