Spring Newsletter

“We used to have a little boy who would make very little eye contact and isolated himself in social situations. He did not seem to be very happy. Now, we have a confident, happy young man who is beginning to seek out adults and other children. He is actually making friends for the first time in his life at age 10. This is what we have been wanting for him for so long.”

Our Partners are the motivation behind all of the hard work that goes into raising, training and placing a service dog. The incredible people we serve inspire staff and volunteers to work harder and push further to continue the mission of Saint Francis Service Dogs. Once a year we honor our new Saint Francis Service Dogs graduating teams. This is our opportunity to celebrate

of isolation, depression and anxiety. The result is improved overall health and a higher quality of life. Our Partners laugh more and interact more with others. They make the most of their abilities by engaging in the community, challenging themselves and embracing life to its fullest potential.

While we celebrate the success of our wonderful new partnerships, we are reminded that we have 20 approved candidates who are still waiting for their life-changing service dog. Above and beyond that, there are over 60 children and adults still waiting for a chance to apply. Saint Francis does not charge for our professionally trained service dogs. We operate without a revenue stream, government funds or insurance reimbursements. Your donations make these miracles happen. Without your help, deserving people will continue to wait to reclaim the dignity, freedom and confidence that a Saint Francis Service Dog can help to provide. Your support of our mission is what allows us to place exceptional service dogs with extraordinary people. We are proud to introduce the Saint Francis graduating class of 2018.

the collaboration of staff, breeders, puppy raisers, prison puppy raisers, foster families, puppy sitters, trainers, donors, the board of directors, advisory council members, all of our hard-working volunteers, our exceptional dogs, and most of all—our extraordinary Partners. Saint Francis Service Dogs transform the lives of the people they serve in numerous ways. Our Partners enjoy increased independence, higher self-esteem, and peace of mind, while discovering more opportunities than they ever thought possible. Most people with disabilities struggle with more than their primary disability. They deal with anxiety, depression and loneliness. Sometimes, these conditions are more painful than the physical disability. A service dog can help to relieve feelings

“Ginger helps increase student communication and language skills by following commands the children give her. She allows independence in older students who help with responsibilities such as toileting, grooming and feeding. Ginger is a fantastic help to students who feel anxiety about places that used to overwhelm them.” - Damien, Handler

“Jip has given me purpose and focus for my future again. She’s the best medicine both physically and emotionally. I haven’t fallen since bringing her home. Before getting Jip, I was hesitant to accept new challenges. Now, with my service dog beside me, I am more confident to tackle life.” -Deborah Scholarship provided by Cabin Fever Charities Breeder: ADI Breeding Cooperative Prison Puppy Raiser: Trampas Wingo Trainer: Jeanne Bell

“Tandem can do things for me and I don’t have to ask for help from others. He has made it easier for my whole family. Having Tandem near me makes me feel safe and more in control. When out in public, people smile and ask questions about Tandem rather than about my disabilities.” –Jennifer Scholarship provided by an anonymous donor Breeders: ADI Breeding Cooperative and Pam Hand Prison Puppy Raiser: Victor Wilson Foster Family: Susan A. “Biscuit gives not only emotional support and distraction when Haleigh gets overstimulated, Biscuit provides deep pressure to calm her and ears to rub, which soothes her.” - Kristi, Haleigh’s mother
