VILLAGE OF ALBANY albanywi.org 608.862.3240

If you're looking for the sweetest spot on the Sugar River, it's the village of Albany. From the early days of mills using water power, to today's outdoor recreation opportunities and events – it's the river that keeps things running.

Visitors and locals enjoy the water for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, as well as ice fishing in winter. Hot summer days bring the crowds for cool float trips on tubes. Several outfitters – like Sweet Minihaha Campground – offer tube rentals and shuttle service. For an adventure on land, check out the Sugar River State Trail. Go south to roll through scenic farmland all the way to Brodhead. Go north to ride over the river and through the Albany Wildlife Area on a series of wooden bridges. The wildlife area is open for public hunting, fishing, and trapping. Albany is also open to ATV and UTV users on designated streets; drivers must be 16 or over with a valid driver's license. Enjoy the view in downtown Albany from one of these favorite scenic spots: Sugar River Overlook Park (across from the library), on the bridge overlooking the river, or from the vantage point of your kayak floating downstream. For a bird's eye view of Albany's best fall colors, go to page 4. Albany is small in size but big on community pride. Many activities are centered on school and church. Community volunteers step up to make a difference with groups like the Fire Department and EMS, Lions Club, and FFA Alumni. The Albany Chamber is an organization promoting the small town atmosphere and events like the annual holiday tree lighting. Here's a newer event for your calendar – Albany Riverfest. Held in mid August, the third annual Riverfest pulls out all the stops when it comes to family fun. On the schedule are live music and street dances, and good food like the American Legion chicken BBQ and the EMS fish fry. Tournaments include fastball softball, bags, and mud volleyball – right in the river! It's River Rats vs. Buffalos for a kickball challenge with the kids. All ages are welcome for the crazy bed races on main street, and there's a parade on Sunday.
