New Book Spurs Imagination of Young Cowboys and Cowgirls Contributed by The Bell Mare Book Company, LLC When new mom and longtime equine journalist Lindsay Keller began reading books to her son, she realized the “cowboy” books available to children were few and far between and many of them were created by people not truly familiar with the western way of life. “The books my son liked

best were about cowboys and horses, and although the books were cute and kept his attention with their bright colors and fun words, they just weren’t an authentic depiction of the life he would eventually grow up in,” Lindsay says. So, she decided to do something about it. Partnering with her mother and illustrator, Marilyn Domer, the two created the book “Short Go Makes the NFR” to give rodeo kids a heart- warming story they could relate to and appreciate. “Our family has gone to the

National Finals Rodeo for more than 30 years and we all rope and ride ourselves, so I relied on our own personal experiences to make the book authentic, as well as my experience being a mother to make the illustrations bright and fun for children,” Marilyn says.
