A message from the Chairman.

On behalf of all committee members and myself, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators for the Doug Gamble Charity Shield invitation game. As you may know, Doug Gamble devoted many hours of his life promoting youth football and was a founder member of the Youth League. Hopefully this will be an appropriate way of remembering Doug and what he achieved.

Goal Scorers:

The Charity Shield match is in memory of Doug Gamble who was the mainstay in the 1960’s of starting up the league after a year’s break with the help of the Peterborough Youth Service. The league has gone forward from that day and has seen many players progress into senior football with some into the professional ranks. Doug passed away in 2006 after being involved for 44 years until 2003 when he retired due to ill health as President of the league, which he had held for 22 years. His family are very proud that we have agreed to use his name for this event which we hope will be a great success and a great way to start each season off. Your support of this match will be most appreciated by the Management Committee. We hope that this match is played in the spirit of the game and everybody applauds the teams for competing, with the game the winner, as Doug always liked to see the game played for enjoyment and not ‘win at all cost’.

I hope you enjoy what should be an entertaining game played in a sporting manner.

I would like to thank all those who have made this game possible, including today’s hosts who have kindly allowed us to use their facilities.
